The Forbidden City Exclusive: Why We Stole Miami's Best Kept Secret (Tabac 28)
There is nothing I hate more than "City Exclusives."
The idea that you have to fly to Miami (or wait until September and pay a 50% markup) just to buy a bottle of Le Labo Tabac 28 is arguably the most annoying marketing tactic in the industry.
But here is the painful truth: The scent is incredible.
It smells like a sweaty night in Havana. It smells like expensive Rum, Cuban cigars, and Cedarwood. It is smoky, dirty, and profoundly sexy. It is the ultimate "Bad Boy" fragrance.
However, no perfume is worth a $1,000 plane ticket. So, at Scent Lab 33, we decided to democratize it. We reverse-engineered the magic, fixed the flaws, and bottled it as Miami Tobacco.
The Deconstruction: Tobacco vs. Ashtray
When analyzing the original Tabac 28, we noticed a polarizing element. It contains a very heavy dose of Guaiac Wood which, on some skin types, dries down to smell like "Cold Ash" (an old ashtray).
For some, that's gritty and cool. For others, it's just dirty.
The Elevation: How We Polished the Leaf
With Miami Tobacco, we wanted to capture the glamour of Miami, not the grime.
2. The Boozy Injection: The original is dry. We injected a higher concentration of Dark Rum Absolute into the heart. This gives it a syrupy, golden warmth that makes it much more wearable for dates and intimate settings.
3. The Oud Backbone: We maintained the synthetic Oud base but rounded it off with Cedarwood to give it a polished, furniture-grade woodiness.
Where to Wear It?
This is not a "grocery shopping" scent. This is a statement piece.
Wear Miami Tobacco when you are wearing a leather jacket. Wear it to a dimly lit bar. Wear it on New Year's Eve when you want to be the most mysterious person in the room.
It projects power. It says you know the secret handshake.
The Verdict
You don't need to be in South Beach to smell like it. And you certainly don't need to pay $500.
This is the smell of vice, perfected.
