THE PROJECTION TEST: Which Scents Fill The Room? (And Which Stay Close?)
In the fragrance world, we talk about "Sillage" (See-Yahzh). It is the French word for "Wake," like the trail left by a boat in the water.
Some people want to announce their arrival before they enter the room. Others want to be discovered only in a hug.
I put 5 new Scent Lab 33 releases to the "Radar Test." Based on Louis Vuitton’s most iconic DNA profiles, here is exactly how far these scents travel.
The Inspiration: LV Ombre Nomade ($410).
The Analysis: This is a beast. The combination of Heavy Oud, Raspberry, and Incense creates a dense cloud. Do not spray this if you plan to be in a small elevator. It smells of wealth, dark wood, and smoke. It commands the room.
The Inspiration: LV Nuit de Feu ($410).
The Analysis: "Night of Fire." This is pure White Incense and Leather. It projects well, but unlike the aggressive Oud of Nomad Shadow, this spreads like a warm, mystical fog. It’s distinct but not choking.
The Inspiration: LV Mille Feux ($320).
The Analysis: A fascinating contradiction. It mixes the toughness of Leather with the juicy sweetness of Raspberry. The fruit notes project early on, while the leather sits closer to the skin, creating a dual-layer effect.
The Inspiration: LV On The Beach ($320).
The Analysis: Citrus scents usually vanish. We anchored the Yuzu and Neroli with a sandy, aromatic herb base. It creates a "personal bubble" of freshness. It won't fill the room, but the person sitting next to you will definitely notice.
The Inspiration: LV Orage ($320).
The Analysis: "The Storm." This uses Patchouli and Iris to mimic the smell of rain on earth (Petrichor). It is designed to be subtle and atmospheric. It’s for the mysterious introvert who wants to be discovered, not announced.
