THE TOKYO EDIT: 5 Scents That Smell Like a Trip to Japan (Better Than Le Labo City Exclusives?)
Japan has a unique olfactory landscape. It smells of steam, moss, neon lights, and falling petals.
Many niche brands try to capture this. Le Labo charges $375+ for their "Tokyo Exclusive" (Gaiac 10). Dior charges $330 for their Sakura scent.
At Scent Lab 33, we believe you shouldn't need a plane ticket to experience these scents. Here is our curated "Japanese Collection"—an itinerary for your nose.
The Journey: This is not Starbucks matcha. This is the scent of a whisk hitting the bowl in a wooden tea house. It is earthy, grassy, and creamy, with a soft floral breeze coming through the window.
The Upgrade: More Tea, Less Fig. While Le Labo is very fruity (fig-heavy), our version focuses more on the roasted, grassy aroma of the Matcha tea leaf itself.
The Journey: Rain falling on hot asphalt and neon signs. It smells clean, woody, and oddly comforting. It is the scent of being alone in a crowded city at midnight.
The Upgrade: Availability. You can usually only buy Gaiac 10 in Tokyo. We made this "Skin Scent" profile available globally, and we boosted the Musk for better longevity.
The Journey: Hanami (Flower Viewing). It captures the delicate, powdery scent of cherry blossoms floating on the wind. It is soft, pink, and innocent.
The Upgrade: The Rice Note. We added a "Rice Powder" accord to give it a traditional Japanese cosmetic vibe, making it feel more authentic and less like generic soap.
The Journey: A Japanese citrus bath. Yuzu is sharper and more aromatic than lemon. Mixed with a tart cherry note, it creates an electric, zesty explosion that wakes up the senses.
The Upgrade: The Cherry Twist. Most Yuzu scents are boring. We added a "Red Cherry" note that adds a juicy, fruity contrast to the bitter citrus.
The Journey: A high-end bar in Ginza. The smell of fizzy champagne bubbles popping, mixed with expensive perfume and night air. It is sparkling, playful, and effervescent.
The Upgrade: The Fizz. We used special Aldehydes to physically recreate the sensation of "bubbles" in your nose. It tickles.
