🌧️ The Inspiration: The Typhoon

A storm hitting the Yakushima forest. Rain soaking into centuries-old cedar and cypress trees. Rain on Ancient Wood adds an aquatic, petrichor dimension to the dry woods of Hwyl. It is atmospheric, melancholic, and deeply refreshing. The smell of wet wood releasing its scent.

🧪 The Olfactory Architecture: Ozone and Bark

The scent opens with Ozone and Rain Accord. The heart is Wet Cypress and Violet Leaf. The base is Geosmin and Frankincense. It smells like a sauna in the rain.

🌿 Raw Material Sourcing: The Elements

  • Geosmin: The molecule of wet earth.
  • Norlimbanol: A powerful woody-amber molecule that gives a "dry wood" effect, which we contrast with the water notes.

🧠 The Scent Psychology: Renewal

The scent of rain after a dry spell signals renewal and relief. Rain on Ancient Wood washes away emotional debris. It is cleansing and clarifying.

🇬🇧 The London Lab Technology

We used Hydro-Wood Fusion. Combining water notes with wood notes is difficult as they often clash. We used a bridging molecule found in violet leaf to create a seamless "Wet Wood" effect.

✨ The Application Ritual

When to wear: Rainy days, humid summer days, or when reading indoors.
Where to spray: Clothes and hair.
Style pairing: Raincoats, grey sweaters, technical fabrics, and minimalist style.

💭 From the Perfumer's Diary

"It's my favorite smell in the world—wood getting wet. It's ancient and fresh at the same time. A very poetic scent."
